Emergency lighting, the lights that go on when the power goes off, are safety and security equipment, found in businesses, churches, factories, malls, offices, public buildings, schools and retail stores.
Presently, when power loss occurs, units are required to be operational for thirty (30) minutes. In new installations, or should building remodeling or unit replacement occur, change is required up to ninety (90) minutes operation.
Two (2) styles of emergency lighting units are used, remote or stand alone.
Stand alone units are self contained, use standard power, have lights and an alternate power source with a method of charging.
Remote units, are separated from lighting areas, may use a power input other than standard, and have a larger alternate power capacity to support multiple lighting devices/fixtures.
Both emergency lighting units should be in-house tested minimum quarterly, by pressing the push-to-test button.
Emergency lighting units may also be maintained and serviced by Alarm Specialists.
