Motion Lights
Motion Lights, relatively new to the security industry, are exterior lighting devices placed to illuminate areas for safety and security. Motion lights, are not connected to alarm systems and are triggered by movement of a variety of outside sources i.e. cats, deer, dogs or humans.
These lighting devices are believed less expensive to operate as maximum power consumption only occurs for brief periods of times when lights are lit.
Many manufacturers and model types are available however, the most practical are modular with twin light sockets, sensing/triggering sensor and replacement/mounting hardware.
To avoid tampering, possibly rendering the device ineffective merely by unscrewing the bulbs, mount the device(s) out of reach, approximately twelve (12) feet above ground elevation.
Availability, installation and operation is relatively simple and can be accomplished by most home owners with cost and quality in-step between twenty (20) and eighty (80) dollars.
Adjustments of range/sensitivity and delay, for convenience of installation, are suggested made on the ground, prior to climbing to install. Range setting is suggested to maximum and time delay, the amount of time lights are on, is suggested only for five (5) minutes. Besides lighting the device now serves as an indicator advising that within the past five (5) minutes someone/something has passed through the area activating the device, illuminating the area.
